Marionettes

On Thursday 23 October 2024, Outreach ran a Marionette event celebrating the craft of making marionettes, which in 2023 was added to the Heritage Craft Association endangered list.

The event was for both Guild members and guests from the puppetry community. The evening included displays, talks, demonstrations and performances. There were also chances for visitors to have a go at operating a marionette for themselves!

The evening explored the following topics:

• Carving techniques
• Tailoring costumes
• Recreating biological mechanics
• Trick marionettes
• Marionettes on film
• Marionettes through the ages from Victorian times to the present
