Brush Lettering Workshops with Ged Palmer at The AWG

Following a series of sold-out workshops in 2024, award-winning lettering artist and guild member Ged Palmer, is excited to announce a new series of workshops at The Art Workers' Guild.

This workshop focuses on the foundational 'Block' Lettering, 'Casual' and 'Script' styles in the signwriting tradition. Ideal for both beginners and professionals, it covers essential brush control and techniques for creating these versatile styles, used in professional signwriting, commercial lettering, and various artistic practices. Previous participants have come from backgrounds in scenic art, graphic design, calligraphy, type design, illustration, and fine arts. Brush control and a good eye for design are key transferable skills valuable across many disciplines.

Workshop Details:

Students will learn and refine their brush lettering techniques under expert guidance. The workshop introduces the tools of the trade, explains the proper techniques of draftsmanship and the painting of a variety of lettering styles. Participants will also have the opportunity to design their own hand-painted sign, exploring layout, colour theory, and effects. Whether for personal projects or a career in lettering, this workshop is a great way to expand your skills and creative potential.
