Jonathan Taylor

Category Architect

Region London

Jonathan Taylor runs an architectural practice that produces very inventive architecture, drawing on tradition but firmly of today. A rare fusion of craft, an understanding of materials, vernacular and context, as well as intelligence and invention within a traditional/classical idiom

He studied architecture at Edinburgh College of Art and at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. Before establishing his practice he worked in Edinburgh for Simpson and Brown Architects on a number of restoration and conservation projects including the Scotch Malt Whisky Society’s building on Queen Street. While in Edinburgh he also worked on a significant urban design project in the city’s Old Town. He then worked in London with Adam Richards Architects on projects including student accommodation at West Dean College, proposals for the extension of Ditchling Museum, a private library in Dorset, a folly in Gloucestershire and retail fit-outs.

He currently runs an MArch design unit at Kingston University School of Architecture in London with Timothy Smith and has previously taught architecture at Edinburgh College of Art and has been a guest critic at London Metropolitan and Kingston Universities, and at ETH in Zurich.
